Donny is like a dolphin<\/p>\n\n\n\n
in the water,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
all slick and oily skinned,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
diving down and up<\/p>\n\n\n\n
and showing off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
C\u2019mon! C\u2019mon\u2019!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
he shouts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He dives again,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
this time staying down longer<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Five\u2026six\u2026seven seconds<\/p>\n\n\n\n
she counts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And up into the softening summer\u2019s light<\/p>\n\n\n\n
snowy head darkened<\/p>\n\n\n\n
with water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I\u2019ll beat my record this time!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And down again:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Five\u2026six\u2026seven\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Eight\u2026 nine\u2026 ten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She feels a stab of fear<\/p>\n\n\n\n
but shakes it off when his jubilant head shoots up once<\/p>\n\n\n\n
more like a too-quick birth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\u2019s there again laughing<\/p>\n\n\n\n
and pleased as punch!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On his face in the water<\/p>\n\n\n\n
just floating there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Donny won\u2019t remember<\/p>\n\n\n\n
