WAVERLEY WRITERS OF FOWL REPORT to FOWL COMMITTEE, December 2016
Waverley Writers of FOWL held its 21st meeting on the third Sunday of December from 2-4 pm in the Theory Room in Waverley Library. There were 7 attendees at this 9th meeting for 2016, which Anne Skyvington convened.
This pre-Christmas meeting followed our usual tradition. We each read aloud a short, entertaining piece of writing, some with a Christmas theme. One contribution, which bucked the trend, offered a thoughtful view of the global year that has just been. After the readings, which were wonderfully entertaining, we tucked into a veritable feast that included drinks, biscuits, cake, fruit and dips.
Four of us had relaxed with each other at the FOWL Meet and Greet on the 8th of December, where we were able to discuss books we have personally read and loved (thanks to an enjoyable getting-to-know-you game played at the FOWL gathering). It was terrific to get to know each other in such a different context, and to meet other FOWL members too. So, huge thanks to FOWL for organising the Meet and Greet.
During the Waverley Writers’ pre-Christmas meeting, we were also able to warmly congratulate one of our valued members, Maureen Mendelowitz, whose first novel has just been accepted for publication by Ginninderra Press. Maureen is our third member, and our only ongoing one, to be published by this respected press. We are looking forward to her book launch later this year.
Brilliantly done, Maureen. We have all been inspired by you!
Our next meeting, the first one for 2017, will take place on Sunday the 19th of February, from 2-4pm in the Theory Room in Waverley Library. (We do not host a meeting in January.)
Members of Waverley Library Welcome!
Regards
Susan Beinart (Liaison, Waverley Writers of FOWL)
