WAVERLEY WRITERS OF FOWL REPORT to FOWL (Friends of Waverley Library) COMMITTEE, August 2018
Waverley Writers of FOWL held its 38th meeting on the 3rd Sunday of August from 2-4 pm in the Theatrette in Waverley Library. There were 8 people present at the meeting, which Anne Skyvington convened.
7 participants presented pieces of writing for discussion during our feedback session. These included 5 novel excerpts and 2 poems. The standard of writing was as high as usual, and reaction from members enthusiastic.
Before the feedback session began, we discussed our upcoming practice session for the forthcoming FOWL Meet and Greet. Those who intend to present excerpts of their poetry or prose during the Meet and Greet have agreed to bring their pieces to our next meeting, which will be held on the 16th of September. On this occasion, members of both Waverley Writers and, hopefully, Eastern Suburbs Poetry Group will practise reading their pieces, or ask another member to read in their stead. Each presentation should take no longer than 4 minutes. We have also agreed that all of the Meet and Greet pieces should be presented at this session.
Waverley Writers and Eastern Suburbs Poets should feel free to invite friends and family to come and support us on the Meet and Greet day at Waverley Library (2nd October from 10am -12pm).
We have also received some exciting news about Dina Davis, one of our founding members. Dina, who splits her time between Darwin and Sydney, attends our meetings whenever she can. Her novel Capriccio (www.capricciothenovel.com) is about to be published by Cilento Press as both an eBook and a hard copy. Readers can soon purchase Dina’s book from the above website. The book will be launched in Darwin on 9 September, and in Sydney later on.
Dina was also a finalist in the NT Literature Awards 2018 for her short story “Edge”. Her website for articles on writing, women authors, travel tales and book reviews is www.dinadavis2015.wordpress.com .
Our next meeting will take place on Sunday the 16th of September 2018, from 2-4pm in the Theory Room in Waverley Library. We are looking forward to seeing you at the library then.
