WAVERLEY WRITERS OF FOWL REPORT to FOWL  (Friends of Waverley Library) COMMITTEE, July 2017

Waverley Writers of FOWL held its 26th meeting on the 3rd Sunday of July from 2-4 pm in the Theory Room in Waverley Library. There were 6 members at this meeting, which Anne Skyvington convened.

Each attendee at our July meeting contributed a piece of writing to this feedback session. There were 4 excerpts from novels-in-progress, a piece of creative writing that might end up in a novel or short story, and an opinion piece.  Surprisingly, there was no memoir excerpt this time! Our July meeting was another successful and enjoyable one with great feedback and discussion.

When I downloaded the latest FOWL Deeds yesterday, it was thrilling to find that two Waverley Writers of FOWL members had contributed to it. Both articles were well presented in this interesting newsletter that all FOWL members receive. So far, our group has had 4 publications in FOWL’s quarterly newsletter. If you are interested in contributing, we could discuss how to go about it at our next meeting, if you wish.

It is also worth remembering that if you are a FOWL member, and are about to publish a book, you can use Waverley Library free of charge for your book launch. Of course you will have to organise and pay for any catering required. One of our members, who is about to have her book published, has inquired about a possible book launch at the library, and has found out that they are booked up until the end of this year. However, a recent discussion with the FOWL committee has clarified the situation. Apparently, if Waverley Writers is prepared to help on the night, instead of library staff, it might be very possible to arrange a book launch for this year. We could discuss this further at our next meeting.

The next meeting will occur on Sunday the 20th of August, from 2-4pm in the Theory Room in Waverley Library.

We’re looking forward to seeing you there.

Regards

Susan Beinart (Liaison, Waverley Writers of FOWL)
