WAVERLEY WRITERS OF FOWL REPORT to FOWL (Friends of Waverley Library) COMMITTEE, February 2017
Waverley Writers of FOWL held its 22nd meeting on the 3rd Sunday of February from 2-4 pm in the Theory Room in Waverley Library. There were 9 attendees at this 1st meeting for 2017, which Anne Skyvington convened. We had one new member, who was most welcome.
Lorna Graham, retiring editor of FOWL Deeds, attended our meeting in the hope that we would wish to make a contribution to future editions of the FOWL quarterly newsletter. Lorna spoke to us for about 20 minutes and we were all amazed at how much she had achieved during her 4-year editorship. Although none of our members felt they could take up the helm of FOWL Deeds, Lorna generated much enthusiasm for literary contributions. After she’d left, members suggested book reviews, reports on local creative activities, inspiring literary thoughts and even short poems or pieces of prose. We are looking forward to a likely appearance in future editions of FOWL Deeds.
During the remainder of our meeting, 8 of us read and obtained feedback for our individual pieces of writing. These included such genres as short story, poetry and excerpts from novels. It was a very satisfying and supportive meeting with lots of encouraging and helpful feedback.
On the following Sunday, four of our members attended the FOWL AGM, where Anne Skyvington reported on our activities and successes in 2016. One of our members nominated me to reprise my position as a FOWL Committee member, which I accepted. In this way, I will continue to liaise between our FOWL sponsors and all our members in 2017.
Our next meeting will take place on Sunday the 19th of March, from 2-4pm in the Theory Room in Waverley Library.
Looking forward to seeing you there.
Regards
Susan Beinart (Liaison, Waverley Writers of FOWL)
