WAVERLEY WRITERS OF FOWL – 14th REPORT to FOWL COMMITTEE,
17th APRIL, 2016
Waverley Writers of FOWL held its 14th meeting on the third Sunday of April, from 2-4 pm in the Theory Room in Waverley Library. There were 8 attendees at this third meeting for 2016, which Anne Skyvington convened.
During this feedback session all eight of us read a piece of prose and received constructive feedback. There was a good mixture of fiction and memoir for us to critique.
Again, Susan reminded the group to re-join FOWL, and handed out a form to a member who hadn’t got around to it.
Before the feedback session, we discussed Susan’s attendance at the latest FOWL Committee meeting, and FOWL’s desire for us to participate more fully in their activities. As a result, Waverley Writers agreed to play its part, and volunteered to do more for FOWL, who does so much for Waverley Library and, inter alia, our group. About 4 members decided to attend the Daffodils talk, and one of them has subsequently written a short review of that interesting talk for FOWL DEEDS. Others have agreed to attend the next Meet and Greet, and at least one of us will sell raffle tickets and attend FOWL meetings. We will continue to encourage participation in FOWL events. Hopefully our contribution will grow.
To end this report on an upbeat note, I would like to point out that membership of our group has affected many individual members positively in respect to their writing. For example, our strong feedback sessions have enriched our craft. In addition, the opportunity we provide for writers to get together and liaise, brings untold benefits. One of them is attendance and support at book launches. In the last six months, for instance, two of our former members have launched novels, and we were there, supporting and encouraging these very talented people, of whom we are rightly proud.
Our next meeting will be on Sunday the 15th of May, in the Theory Room at Waverley library, from 2-4pm.
Regards
Susan Beinart (Liaison, Waverley Writers of FOWL)
